Getting around the Island of Capri

The island is not reachable by car, unless you are a resident. Using public transport or taxis are therefore the methods of getting around. A single-journey funicular ticket and bus tickets costs 2 euros. Please check the map for where to purchase them.

This is the simplest and fastest (<5 minutes) way of getting to the centre of Capri from the port. From 6:30am until 11:00pm, the funicular leaves every 10-15 minutes and doesn’t stop. On summer nights, once the funicular closes, buses run just as often along the same route. Between 2:00am and 5:00am, there is no service.

Ticket prices 2 euros. The buses are only small, with approximately 30 seats. Queues often form at bus stops, however you don’t have to wait too long for a bus. Buses pass one after another, without a timetable, practically 24/7 with the exception of the hours between 2:00am and 5:00am. All available routes can be found on the map.

Marina Grande - Anacapri, 20 minutes (frequently requested journey).

Capri - Anacapri, 15 minutes (frequently requested journey).

Anacapri - Blue Grotto, 15 minutes (frequently requested journey).

Anacapri - The Punta Carena Lighthouse, 15 minutes.

Capri - Marina Piccola, 10 minutes.

Taxi

If you don’t like waiting in line or joining the masses on the bus, take a taxi! On the Island of Capri, there are many comfortable and open-topped vehicles available. A taxi can transport up to 6 people, the prices are given on a group of 1-4 people (if there are 5 or 6 of you, you will pay an extra charge of 5 euros). You could always arrange to take a taxi with someone in the queue. Many taxis wait near the bus stops for when the wait becomes too much!

Marina Grande - Anacapri, 25 euros.

Marina Grande - Blue Grotto or The Punta Carena Lighthouse, 40 euros.

Anacapri - Blue Grotto or The Punta Carena Lighthouse, 25 euros.

Chair lift

Taking the chair lift is advised for those wishing to reach the summit of Monte Solaro. The system departs Piazza della Vittoria (Anacapri), near to the bus stop. A ticket costs €8 per journey. If you don’t see yourself walking down (more than one hour’s walk), purchase a return ticket for €11. Opening hours: from 9:30am until 4:00pm (in summer it is open until 5:00pm). Journey time: 13 minutes.
